D. David Hotchkiss, a history writer and 40-year Oregon resident, is a member of the Josephine County Historical Society. In addition to writing for a number of publications, he also wrote a dramatic work celebrating Oregon's sesquicentennial for the society's Living History Players. While working for the United States Postal Service, he also served as president of the Oregon Postal Workers Uniln AFL/CIO. D. David is an avid traveler, skilled actor, performing musician, reader of a wide range of subjects, and home farmer.

 

She Flies With Her Own Wings describes Oregon's history from prehistoric times to the creation of the "Oregon Territory" and its eventual statehood in 1859. It tells the story of some of the region's prominent historical figures including explorers and pioneers whose dreams guided their paths in the new territory.
